All these walks are graded as harder/challenging.  They are 6 or more miles in length and last 3+ hours so bring a packed lunch.  The walks cross rough ground which is sometimes muddy so walking boots are needed.  The walks will include inclines (some steep), often go over stiles and require a good level of fitness.

As many of the routes go over land containing sheep or other livestock, dogs are not allowed on the walks.

Wednesday 17th July
A 6 mile (10 km) walk with 1270 ft (390 m) of ascent from Minera Lead Mines through the quarries and over Esclusham Mountain.  Meet at 9.45 for a 10.00 start in the lead mines car park (LL11 3DU Grid Ref SJ 276 510 ///overpaid.kilts.code).  No dogs please.

Directions
Leave Wrexham on the A525 (Ruthin Road) and drive through Coedpoeth.  At the crossroads by Jordan’s Van Centre, turn left on to the B5426 (Minera Hall Road).  Proceed along this winding road for 1.4 miles and the Lead Mines car park is on the right.

Wednesday 21st August
A linear 13.2 mile (21 km) walk with 2380 ft (725 m) of ascent from Corwen to Llangollen along the North Berwyn Way over Moel Fferna and Vivod Mountain.  Meet in King Street Bus Station in Wrexham at 8.50 to catch the T3 Barmouth bus at 9.07.  No dogs please.

Wednesday 18th September
A circular 6.5 mile (10.5 km) train walk with 1327 ft (400 m) of ascent from Chirk Station via Bronygarth, Castle Mill, Offa’s Dyke Path and the grounds of Chirk Castle.  Meet at 9.25 at Wrexham General Railway Station to catch the 9.40 train to Chirk.  No dogs please.

Wednesday 16th October
A 3 hour 6.25 mile (10 km) circular walk with 1300 ft (400 m) of ascent on the Clwydian Way from the Ponderosa Café at the top of the Horseshoe Pass.  Meet at 9.15 for a 9.30 start opposite the café (LL20 8DR Grid Ref SJ 192 481 ///regulates.panic.drifters).  No dogs please.

Directions
The Ponderosa is on the A542 at the top of the Horseshoe Pass.  There is parking across the road from the café.

Wednesday 20th November
A 3.5 hour 6.5 mile (10.5 km) walk with 1188 ft (360 m) of ascent from Llwynmawr southwards on the Ceiriog Way up to Spring Hill.  Meet at 9.15 for a 9.30 start in the large car park off Maes-y-Wern in Llwynmawr (LL20 7BB Grid Ref SJ 222 371 ///attitudes.flaunting.kennels).  No dogs please.

Directions
Take the B4500 west from Chirk along the Ceiriog Valley through Pontfadog.  About 1 mile further on, the road bends round to the left and 100 m after this and just past the Dolywern Leonard Cheshire Home, bear left on to Maes-y-Wern.  The car park is about 250 m along on the left.

Wednesday 18th December
A choice of two alternative walks from Llanarmon Dyffryn Ceiriog with the option of Christmas lunch afterwards.  Either a 3 hour 5.5 mile (9 km) walk with 1210 ft (370 m) of ascent on the Upper Ceiriog Trail or a shorter approximately 3 mile (about 5 km) local walk.  Meet at 9.45 for a 10.00 start in the centre of the village (LL20 7LD Grid Ref SJ 157 328 ///camps.mows.enacts).  No dogs please.

Directions
Take the B4500 west from Chirk along the Ceiriog Valley for about 11 miles, going through Glyn Ceiriog.  Then keep to the B4500 through Tregeiriog for another 1¼ miles to Llanarmon DC where there is limited parking.
